Thyagaraj Sports Complex

The Thyagaraj Sports Complex in New Delhi, India, is a state-of-the-art indoor multi-sport facility purpose-built for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, where it served as the official venue for netball events.
Designed to international standards, the complex features a 5,000-seat main arena,
athlete warm-up areas, VIP and media facilities, and extensive back-of-house infrastructure to support elite-level competition. The venue was designed to accommodate a wide range of indoor sports including basketball, badminton, volleyball, and gymnastics, and has since become a key hub for both competitive sport and community events in the region.
Notably, Thyagaraj Sports Complex was conceived as India’s first model green stadium, achieving LEED Gold certification for its pioneering sustainability features. The design integrates solar power generation, rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation systems, and recycled building materials, positioning the complex as a benchmark in energy-efficient public infrastructure.
Post-Games, the facility continues to serve as a vital community and sporting asset, supporting training camps, school programs, and cultural events while exemplifying best practice in sustainable design and legacy planning.
