Launceston Leisure & Aquatic Centre
Launceston, Tas

The Launceston Aquatic Centre is a landmark community facility that has redefined recreation and wellness in northern Tasmania. Officially opened in May 2009, the centre delivers a contemporary aquatic and leisure experience designed to support a broad cross section of the community, from learn to swim programs and family recreation through to competitive swimming and elite training.

The project scope included a 50 metre competition pool, a leisure pool with interactive water play features, a program pool, café, crèche, and supporting amenities. Careful attention was given to creating light filled, transparent spaces that connect strongly with the surrounding parklands and provide an inviting civic presence for the City of Launceston.

Subsequent works have expanded the centre’s role as a health and wellness hub, including the development of the LAfit gym in 2014 and ongoing upgrades that ensure its continued relevance for future generations. In 2021, the centre also became home to a large scale mural of Olympic gold medallist Ariarne Titmus, celebrating Launceston’s own champion and reinforcing the centre’s place as a foundation for both community participation and elite sporting achievement.
Today, the Launceston Aquatic Centre stands as both a regional sporting destination and a vital community gathering place, balancing everyday accessibility with the capacity to host major events.
