Peddle Thorp undertook the master planning, design,documentation, and contract administration of thismajor industrial complex. The primary commissioninvolved the design of a new motor vehiclemanufacturing plant, complemented by a secondarycommission for the administration complex.
In 2014, Toyota announced the cessation of itsmanufacturing operations in Australia and theconsolidation of its national activities in Melbourne.This decision led to the refurbishment andrepurposing of the existing facility. The plant features30-metre clear spans, and the entire structure is fullydust-sealed to support high-precision manufacturingrequirements.
Subsequent works in 2022 included further masterplanning, establishing connections to the newhydrogen vehicle centre, improving circulation andwayfinding to enhance accessibility for the broadercommunity, along with additional urban landscapeworks along Toyota Way to reinforce the site’s identityand connection to its industrial heritage.
